Why take out ski insurance?
Rescue operations on ski slopes are not free. Here are some examples of costs you may have to pay without insurance (*average indicative prices):
€250 to €400* for standard slope rescue with sled evacuation

€650 to €800* for rescue within the ski area or on a closed slope
In 2016, the “Montagne 2” law ended the full gratuity of mountain rescue in France. Since then, local authorities can charge skiers for all or part of rescue operations on ski slopes.
