Some resorts invest in lifts. Others invest in the view. For winter 2026-2027, Piau-Engaly has chosen the second route, with a panoramic itinerary linking seven viewpoints above the Aure valley.
Seven viewpoints, and an idea behind them
Seven prepared viewpoints, connected to one another, strung together through the day the way you would string together pistes. You come to stop and look, which in a ski resort is far from obvious. Most recent developments aim to make people ski faster and further. This one bets the other way.
It also solves a practical problem. When you ski in a mixed-ability group, the meeting point is always the issue. A named viewpoint settles it without anyone giving up their day.
Two fun runs and a rebuilt boardercross
The resort is also adding two fun runs, one at the bottom of the area and one at the Col, with tunnels, arches and banked turns. The boardercross has been entirely rebuilt. Full details on the resort's official page.
When to go
Piau-Engaly opens on 4 December 2026, in the second Pyrenean wave. Luz Ardiden opens first on 25 November, Cauterets follows with a pre-opening on the weekend of the 27th, then Gourette, Grand Tourmalet, Peyragudes and La Pierre Saint-Martin line up on 5 December. These dates remain provisional and depend on snow cover.
Who it suits
Piau-Engaly is a high-altitude area with generally good snow cover. The viewpoints make it an interesting choice for mixed groups. For passes, our members get reduced rates across more than 150 resorts: see membership terms.
